Flying Foam

11 1/2ft Bucks Ledge Lugger

This is the boat on which new build Lily is based. Her age is unknown but she is quite possibly around 100 years old. Heavily built with 5/8'' thick oak planking and Grown Oak frames, she was designed to work off the rocky beach at Bucks Mills, North Devon.

She requires renewing of some planking and framing aswell as other non original pieces. However, focus will be kept on preserving as much of the original boat by repairing rather than replacing deteriorated pieces when possible.

The photo of her was supplied by the Braund Family of Bucks Mills, her original owners.

Melody, restoration

Restoration of a Williams built Clinker dinghy, built in Aberystwyth. This is a very distinctive little dinghy with her almost Nordic looking bow and an impressive amount of tumblehome in the topsides.

Melody is just at the point where she needs work to stop her deteriorating any further and becoming a full rebuild. Unfortunately she has been the victim of a few bodges to keep her sailing, perhaps the most concerning is the sawdust used to fill a gap in her garboards, rectifying this will be the first job on the list!

Do you have a boat like Melody that has given you years of joy but is in need of some TLC? Please contact us, hopefully your beloved vessel can give you many more years of joy to come.

Chough, restoration (For Sale)

Built by the legendary Percy Mitchell of Portmellon, Cornwall, in 1960, this launch was built for and owned by a gentleman owner in Newquay.

Chough is a pretty 22ft boat with the eye catching lines and sweet sheer line that Percy Mitchell was known for. She is in the process of having some minor repair work done as might be expected of 62 year old boat, which overall is in remarkably good condition. A new paint job will really put her back to her former glory.

Chough is available for sale. At present she has a largely stripped out interior which represents a unique opportunity for a potential buyer to own a true classic boat fitted out to their specification. She would be particularly suited to family or group outings, with ample room for dining, fishing, or just sitting back and taking in the views. The enclosed forepeak area and wheel house gives shelter should the weather be less than pleasant.
