Traditional Sign Making
Do you need a sign that stands out from the rest? Plastic signs are convenient and commonplace now, however nothing quite looks as good as a traditional hand carved and hand painted sign. A hand carved wooden sign will last for generations and can be refurbished over time, so no single use plastic going to landfill. Add timeless appeal to your project wether it be a business or your home.
Pictured is a commission for The Barque in Lynmouth, North Devon. The pub had previously been The Village Inn before being taken over by new owners who wanted an Elizabethan theme to The Barque. Being fans of all things Nautical, we settled on a design based on Sir Frances Drakes Golden Hinde. This had a local connection, the replica Golden Hinde being built by Hinks of Appledore in the 1970's.
The sign itself was made from the Elm bar top previously in the pub. Much of the other decorative pieces for the frontage were made from pitch pine reclaimed from the Tors Hotel, Lynmouth, meaning most of the sign and front was made from reclaimed timber. The lettering was gilded with 24 carat Gold Leaf.
